Half-Time was Hectic
For those following the blog, you are probably wondering if I was going to be posting again. I say this because it has been almost a month since my last blog posting. Well, holidays meant extra work at the office, then being on vacation, and small hiccups here and there resulted in the drought of postings. But with a new year ahead and work all caught up, its time to get back in the saddle.
Trying to switch up the flavor of bands and musicians/venues from time-to-time is what I try to do. This latest show was no different. Venue: Tullio Arena. Artist: Hectic. Event: Erie Bayhawks game. Result: Win-win for Hectic and the Bayhawks.
With a few 3-pointers made, the Bayhawks ended the 2nd quarter with a score of 59-53 lead. But the end of the 2nd quarter meant the beginning for Hectic.
The Brox native and multi-RockErie Music Awards winner came out and worked the crowd with his cuts from his latest album, “I AM”. He had the crowd getting into the beat and saying lyrics from his songs. You couldn’t help but to join in. I found myself nodding my head to the beat and speaking the words, but shooting photography and nodding your head to the beat can make it difficult to shoot. Luckily, I’m talented enough to do multitask, and yes, chew gum.
Hectic has several mix tapes and the “I AM” album is his latest album behind “Times Iz Hectic”, and “Times Iz Still Hectic”. There is a variety of sounds, beats, topics, and artists on his tracks that keep you wanting to hear every word on every track. How many times have you heard an artist and all their music sounds the same on an album? A lot more than you expect. But Hectic doesn’t have that problem. He can hit you hard with tracks like, “Boriqua” then have you chill with “Good Girl”.
If you haven’t heard of Hectic, then its time that you have. Hip hop in Erie is growing, although there are a lot of people who are still in the dark about the scene. Check out Hectic’s reverbnation page and get free downloads, become a fan on facebook to keep up with his latest releases, and see the photo gallery of the half-time show here.
